Our Vision

All people will live in and contribute to a welcoming and inclusive community.

Our Mission

The CLA will develop community partnerships that will promote a responsive and welcoming community for people with a disability.

Our Values

  • Our Association believes that people with disabilities have the same right as other citizens to participate in their communities and to live a full and valued life.
  • Our Association believes that communities are enriched by the inclusion and participation of people with disabilities.
  • Our Association believes that people with disabilities have the right to live free of neglect, abuse and exploitation.
  • Our Association believes that communities are valued for their strengths, resources and responsiveness in including and enriching the lives of people with disabilities.
  • Our Association seeks to be at the forefront of innovation and contemporary services for people with disabilities.
  • Our Association believes services should be provided in a flexible and accountable manner to best meet individual needs.
  • Our Association believes that services should compliment and support the role of families, carers and the community.
  • Our Association believes that people who work with people with disabilities are valued and should be supported in that role.

History

  • The LGSCLA (now CLA) formed in 1991. The Association came into existence at a time when disability service sought to move away from institutional settings.
  • In 1991 The LGSCLA operated with 3hrs/wk administration time, and was based at the Albany D.S.C. office.
  • In 1996 The LGSCLA had a budget of $100,000 and provided support to 40 people.
  • The Association has continued to grow and currently supports 65 people with an annual budget in excess of $5 million.
  • In spite of this rapid growth CLA has remained true to it’s core belief in every persons right to be an active member of their community.
  • 27/7/2010 LGSCLA changes name to CLA.
